All the information you can find will tell you that any alcohol consuption is potentially dangrous to the baby. This is mainly because they're all posted by anti-alcohol groups. But, the first three months of gestational development is filled with critial fetal development, all the organs are developing during this time, after the third month the baby is just getting bigger and finetuning previous devleopments. The very begining is the worst time to ingest any potentially harmful substances.
Just remember, late 3rd week to early 4th week the fertlized egg has only just found your uterine lining and implanted it's self and started pumping out the HCG, which gave you those two pink lines. In the sixth week is when the embryo is most suseptable to developmental catastorphy because all the vital organs and brain are being developed.
IF something does happen and you do have a miscarriage, don't blame yourself. Up to the end of the first trimester everyone in every pregnancy is at risk for miscarriage. I doubt that if you do not drink again during the pregnancy that this one binge would be the cause of it. Sometimes there are just things that arn't right and there's no way the baby could have made it. But, like everyone else, if this really has you worried, call and talk to a doctor. They can give you more peace of mind than any of us.

I didn't find out I was pregnant until I was 11 weeks along. In that 11 weeks I made a trip to vegas, 11 trips to happy hour, and many weekend parties... I'm now 26 weeks along and my baby is in perfect health. People drink early in their pregnancies all the time and nothing bad happens. Just don't continue to drink (which I doubt you will since you're already nervous).
Congratulations! What a great new years present!

You should be safe. I am pregnant now--5 months. I got drunk when I was about 2 wks along. I rarely if ever drink and unfortunatly I REALLY drank that night. The baby is fine, according to doctors. Just be careful, the first trimester is the most critical. But alot of ppl drink when they do not know and the babies are fine...they are pretty well protected. Just be careful now, pre-natal vitamins and such. Congrats!

Okay, first of all since you did not "know" you have been pregnant for the past month, then talk to you doctor. And now that you do know that you are, you would be the worse mother possible if you continued to drink. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is not something to mess with. The first trimester is the most crucial in the developement of your baby. This is when cells are dividing to make the arms and legs and organs. The second trimester is when those organs are maturing especially the brain. And the third trimester is when the baby grows the most. To all that keeps telling this woman that it is okay, shame on you. it is never okay to drink while pregnant, at any time! To the woman who said she did not know that she was pregnant when she is nearly 3 months along. You lie like a rug. I knew within a matter of days of missing my menstrual cycle. Drinking alcohol can mess with your menstrual cycle and you must do it alot. No more alcohol, no smoking as this can cause low birth weight along with other birth defects, and no drugs, illegal or otherwise until you see a doctor.

No but it can cause fetal alcohol sydrome.
Call Motherisk.org 1-877-327-4636 and discuss how much you drank and when and any other drugs(prescription, OTC, or other) you have taken. They are the most knowlegable people about drug and alcohol use during pregnancy and lactation.
The Alcohol and Substance Use Helpline is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in each of the Canadian time zones.
If the 800 number is only available to Canadians they can be reached at this number: 1 - 416 - 813 - 6780
Use one of the 10-10 long distance plans and it won't cost much.

It will probably not cause a miscarriage, but it could cause harm to the development of the baby. You are not the first woman that this has happened to, there is likely nothing wrong with the baby but as i am sure you already know from this point on no more drinking!

Miscarriage can happen still yet, but not necessarily because of a drinking binge. A lot of women have indulged prior to knowing they were pregnant and have gone on to having healthy babies. Keep in mind that if you do end up miscarrying chances of you carrying that child to full term would have been iffy already. I don't want you blaming yourself if that's what happens.

You have a tolerance to it yet there are 4 stages of alcoholism. The end stage where I am at is nice I have to drink 2 bottles to get a buzz.

you should be okay...but the time of your pregnancy you want to be most careful is your first trimester because anything can trigger a miscarriage, and you also have 1/3 of a chance of having a miscarriage your first trimester.
