"An adviser to Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said Saddam would be executed before 6 a.m. Saturday, or 10 p.m. Friday EST. Saddam and others were convicted of murder in the killings of 148 Shiite Muslims from an Iraqi town where assassins tried to kill Saddam in 1982.

The time was agreed upon during a meeting Friday between U.S. and Iraqi officials, said the adviser, who declined to be quoted by name because he was not authorized to speak to the media."

rockandroll: The AP reported that the "timing was agreed upon" during the meeting - not just that they needed to coordinate the handover.

ok, granted that this is a threat. To what benefit nonetheless? replaced into somebody scheduled to have a snooze or maybe flow to a action picture? What distinction could this make. heavily, i don't see the relevance of this. An unnamed guy or woman isn't anymore good than the unnamed Democratic occasion leaders who supposedly met with Hamas final month.

I believe someone is sitting back somewhere thinking that it was the best 9 million bucks they ever spent, even if they did have to pretend to lose it off of the back of a pick-up truck.

Let's see. We had him in protective custody. The reason for that was so he wouldn't escape or be ripped to shreds by people on the street there.

I would guess the Army gave the OK based on a number of factors - secrecy, availability of patrols, etc...

bush had nothing to do with the decision to and when to execute Saddam. all bush did was help in capturing him for the Iraqis. i don't agree with bush and this war. but lets stop blaming him for having his nose in the execution. that was Iraq's decision when and how they was going to do it. they had also decided to bury him before dawn. this was because they did not want alot of his followers to show their assses. that was the decision of the Iraqi govt and his family.
