First: determine the least common denominator > 6(y-6) > combine all the denominators.

Second: multiply missing terms to each fraction (top and bottom) to get the LCD > 6(y - 6).

[6(3)/6(y - 6)] - [1(y - 6)/6(y - 6)]

18/6(y - 6) - (y - 6)/6(y - 6)

Third: combine the numerators.

[18 - (y - 6)]/6(y - 6)

[18 - y + 6]/6(y - 6)

24 - y/6(y - 6)

*Its important to keep the numerator in alpha descending order:

-y + 24/6(y - 6)

Or y - 24/6(y - 6)

The common denominators are y-6 and 6:
(3/y-6)/6(y-6)-(1/6)/6(y-6)
(3(6)-(y-6))/6(y-6)
(18-y+6)/6(y-6)
24-y/6y-36 is the final answer!

First, get the two to the same denominator (part underneath). To do that, the fastest way is to cross-multiply - multiply the 3/y-6 by 6/6 and the 1/6 by y-6/y-6. That gives you the same denominator and you can combine into one fraction.

That gives (18)/(6(y-6) - (y-6)/(6(y-6))

or (18 - (y-6)) / (6y-36)

or (24 - y) /(6y-36)

3/y-6 -1/6 solution: 18-(y-6)/y-6=0
18-y-6=0
-y= -18+6
-y= -12,y=12
nb:y-6 is under the 18-(y-6)

Common denominator is 6(y-6)

3/(y-6) - 1/6 = 18/[6(y-6)] - [y-6]/[6(y-6)] = [24-y]/[6(y-6)]

simply find the lcd, which in this case is 6(y-6)..

multiply both numerators, and denominators, that are missing parts of the LCD,,

and get (24-y)/6(y-6)

multiply 1st fraction by 6/6, 2nd by (y-6)/(y-6). You get

18/(6y-36) + (6-y)/(6y-36) = (24-y) / (6y-36)
