By that I mean bleed visibly.Bitches come into season but I've not seen rivers of blood that would need pads/tampons if they were women.

Well yes and no. All mammals have a fertility cycle. It is usually called "estrus".

Humans are distinct in that human females always have swollen breasts and their genitalia "puff" with arrousal, rather than "season". Humans are distinct among large mammals in the frequency of their fertility. Humans are fertile between half and a third of the time.

As far as menstral flows, no humans are pretty unique in that regard. Most other mammals absorb the majority of their uterine lining when they're done. Dogs can make quite a mess though. They generally try to keep themselves clean - they lick themselves (don't you wish you could???) but aren't successful. I prefer female dogs, but have them spayed so this isn't an issue. I tried to keep my current dog intact (as I would have liked to have had some Jack Russel puppies) but it was too much of a mess and since I couldn't find another dog in time, she went through her estrus without any action twice. I felt bad for her. She just kept looking at me and as if to say... "Hey, could you hook me up here?"

Yes. All female mammals do in the same way we do.
We menstrate because the eggs that we do not used are disposed over every 28 days or so.
It is also the reason why chickens lay eggs every day.
