From the United States, you need a passport if you are just staying for a couple of weeks. If you plan to stay there more than a month, you need to get a visa.

Document wise all you need is a valid Passport for an up to 21 day stay, if you want to stay longer you can get and extension to 90 days on your passport at the Embassy, or you can get a Visa if you want to stay longer. After that, just use your common sense and you should have a great time. I always do when I'm there (5 to 6 times a year).

What you fail to provide is what country you are from. However, for most countries a valid passport is required for a stay up to 21 days with proof of onward travel. A longer stay requires a visa which can be obtained at the Philippine Embassy or Consulate in your home country, or at the Philippine Immigration Department in the Intramuros section of Manila.
If you are from an area known for Yellow Fever, you will also need that vaccination.

Enjoy your vacation.

I Just got back from Manila and Pangasinan in December 2006. All you need is your US Passport if your are going to stay in the country for less than 30 days. The Philippines is a very poor country. There are a lot of people who will ask you for money and a lot of them will use children to do it. The people are generally very friendly and kind to foreigners though. Always remember to keep your wallet in your front pocket and always be aware of your surroundings. Avoid travel at night especially in areas that are not well lit. Don't accept anything from anyone as it will usually result in a sales pitch about products or services that can be very aggressive. Otherwise, enjoy your stay in this beautiful country.

you definitely need your passport with you, as in any other country. if you're going to stay for 3 weeks you don't need a visa, but if more than that, then you need one. as for security, it's safe but be careful of suspicious people approaching and offering to help, they might ask for money in return. just be observant of your surroundings, and you'll be fine. the people are nice and friendly and most speak english so there's no language barrier. wish you will consider visiting us here. for more info on the 7,107 islands, you can visit this website..

Definitely a passport is needed. You need to be alert and cautious of your personal security and your belongings. Some foreigners are gypped by wily Filipinos who take them to enterntainment spots, and then later steal everything from them when they get drunk. However, savor everyhting about the local color and the Filipino heart, majority are still God-fearing and lovely.
