a fairy that does bad things

In Arthurian legend, Morgan Le Fey was human, but with fairy blood, and she used her powers for selfishness and evil, so she was a bad fairy, or "Fey". Most fairies have minds and motives totally alien to human thinking, that they can seem evil, for they are easily offended in ways that humans can't comprehend. Likewise, sometimes they become enamored with a human and seek to gift the human, which turns out disasterous because fairy gifts don't always make sense to humans, and if you turn down a fairy gift, you are sure to see the evil side of any fairy. So, fairies are beyond good and evil, they are neither, but an offended fairy will surely turn fey on you!

Like HeartsofAbyss, I've heard of the Seelie and Unseelie. Another term I've heard used before is Sidhe (pronounced Shee). A Bain Sidhe is a dark fairy, and goes by the more modern respelling of "Banshee." It's true that faeries have a reality and thus a morality completely different from ours. But I know I'd rather meet members of the Seelie Court than the Unseelie Court any old day!

I'm going to assume there is not an effeminate man prancing about your home plotting your doom.

That said, Nature is neutral and contains both dark and light. When you say 'evil' I'm assuming you REALLY mean 'dark'.
ALL fey are tricky, changeable and predictably unpredictable. Some fey, when they choose to interact with the human realm, use those powers to do all the typical "good fairy" crap. Simply put, in my opinon, the typical "good fairy" is like fey O.C.D. They HAVE to put order in the world, and they are doing it ultimately because it makes them amused to do so. Any real human benefit is simply a bonus. That said, friendships can be made, if you like that sort of thing, and are willing to kiss fairy *** to achieve that friendship.

Now the realm of the "dark fairy". These folks are just as necessary as the "good guys". If it wasn't for the dark, how the hell would we be able to recognize the light. The dark fey force us to face truths about ourselves and others, often painful ones. They despise stagnancy of any sort and will cause great acts of mischief if they sense a lack of movement or change. Some are truely self-serving assholes, and, just like with humans, we just don't mess with them. If you don't mess with them, they won't bother you. Those sort would rather avoid you to begin with. They DO NOT like people.
BUT, the majority of what one would consider "dark fairies" are there as learnig tools, challenges, balancers. They cannot hurt you unless you fear them, because fear is like a magnet for these. Show respect for ALL fey, and their roles in the universe, learn to control your fears, and you will go through life with only the most necessary of contact with the darker realm.

Apparently the people posting here haven't heard of the Seelie and Unseelie courts. Like any creature living on this planet, there is good and bad. Yin and yang. Etc. etc. etc.
The Seelie faerires stand for all that is good, while the Unseelie stand for all that is dark.

Faeries aren't evil they are clever and mischievous you are thinking of Sprites or Goblins which cause bad things to happen to good people.

The fey are not evil. Sometimes they're mischevious but there are no evil fairies.
