Earlier today, my 1996 Dodge Caravan did something odd. When I went to start it, everything worked (lights on dash, fan, heater, radio), but it wouldn't start. It took several tries before it did. What could be wrong?

It didn't make any clicks or strange noises when I was trying to start it. Pumping the gas pedal didn't make a difference. It's been colder outside in the past, with no problem with starting. I had the starter replaced in July 2006. If it was the battery, wouldn't that affect the radio, fan, etc.? They were working fine, it just wouldn't start.

The ignition switch may be going out or the starter solenoid is going out.

If you heard a definate click or clicks from under the hood (and no effect on the headlights when you start), it's very likely a starter/started solenoid problem. Get this serviced ASAP. It will likely fail you permanently at a very bad place and time.
Expect a $400-$500 repair bill from most shops if it is the starter. Note that a reputable shop will always check the battery and charging system first and often for free.

without a little bit more detail it's hard to say.
it could be the battrery posts need cleaning, a starter going out, the solenoid going bad, bad gas, etc. try describing what happened. did it make a noise, slow crank, take lots of gas pedal pumping, etc. be as specific and detailed as you can. most problems can be solved easily, but not without some idea of what was happening when you tried to start it.

The problem is the starter contacts are bad. Chrysler had alot of problems with this but the starter is repairable and the contacts can be replaced .Usually the starter would give a single click when this problem accures

How does it run after it starts ?? any problems ?? Also check trouble codes even if check engine lite is off. It could be one of several things causing the problem
