I hope I have this right. Your description was a bit difficult to understand, but it sounds as if your 11th grader is out of school because of his involvement in a fight. I won't try to understand all the details.

But here are the things you and your boy need to do:

1. Find out if there is an appeal process to have his case reviewed.

2. If not, for how long is he suspended? 1 week? a month? all year? If it is a short term suspension start preparing for his re- entry. If it is a longer suspension get busy looking for another school.

3. One thing you both have to understand, and you may not like to hear this, is that the school district holds all the cards and you need to play with the ones dealt you. Getting angry, dissing the system, making threats and/or not taking responsibility for his actions will only make matters worse. A sixteen year old boy should be in school. If he is not then he needs to find a way to get back in, or unfortunately he will be at the mercy of a dog eat dog economic system that will kick the stuffings out of him.

4. A last bit of advice for your son. Most fights (I admit not all) are avoidable. He needs to stay away from people who are likely to fight and from places where fights are likely to happen. Many studies have shown that fights are much less likely to happen if there are no spectators. Often those watching make matters worse even when they truly think they are trying to help.

Good luck. I hope he gets back in school soon and can move on.

It's too bad that schools look for the easy way out by expelling students. This doesnt really teach anyone anything, and the students miss their classes. A better idea would have been to get the students who were involved - together and discuss what happened. Then I would have had those student work together to benefit the school or department (like after class).

I'm thinking that being expelled from school for a fight means that the person in question has a previous record.

Why is {white} brought up? Sounds biased to me.
