The good side is that some Baa'th loyalists may finally give up- including some of the most professional ex- Army/Republican Guard insurgents.
The bad side is Iraqi justice may be tainted by the fact that it was widely seen not to have been a fair trial- there were veiled criticisms even by the EU and UNCHR. Hanging the man on Eid was distasteful.
The ugly side is that Saddam's plan is currently still working better than ever. The insurgency will probably eventually oust both the coalition and the current government.

If you look at the history of Saddam's life, he wasn't necessarily a bad leader earlier on in his life, in fact he brought about free public educational system and health care to the people of Iraq with oil money, only after the war with Iran, did they begin to suffer economically, and began a war with Kuwait was an attempt of Saddam to raise oil prices to pay back his loans, and Kuwait did not participate but still sold cheap oil to the US, and the Saddam's bad side soon begins to show with his chemical warfare. This is why there are people who are so split in Iraq about his death, some morning for his death and some praising his death. He did do a lot of good things and a lot of bad things. If you wonder why he hated the United States so much, think about it in Saddam's perspective. US supported Iraq's war with Iran only to run off when Iraq was in debt. When Iraq need money, US did not help but allied with Kuwait for cheap oil. Saddam may have saw US interest is not really in the people of the Middle East but only in its oil. But Anyways, Saddam's murder of innocent people of a cultural group is still not justified.
Adding to Sur's answer, he would have gotten life in prison if he was 70 by Iraqi law which would have been in April 2007, it's a law similar to the laws protecting minors in the US.

i mean bush is responsible for the deaths of give or take 600,000 iraqis so should he be hanged a couple thousand times???
Just FYI, the crimes Saddam was tried for were during a period when the U.S. not only didn't stop him, but supported him politically and w/ aid. So should we execute our leaders then???
Personally, I morally believe killing ppl is wrong. I guess others don't. Since Saddam will be a martyr, expect more killing in the future. And nobody likes that.

The good side is that he finally got what he deserved. The bad side is that not everyone believes that the good side is actually good and could take extreme measures (bombs) for revenge. More deaths will come.

Good-he killed millions of his people. He is rotting next to Satan right now.
I cannot find a bad side. There will be liberals who actually take his side. They should be expedited to Iran.
