Equation:
Y=10+3x

Because Y can not equal more than 55

55>10+3x
-10
45>3x

45/3 equals 15 so 15 is the maximum number of months Joyce will remain in the club.

Here's the equation:
y=3x+10

y=55 cd's only from that club

55=3x+10
3x=45
x=15

She needs to stay on that club for 15 months or one year and three months.

y = 10 + 3x

55 >= 10 + 3x
45 >= 3x
15 >= x, so x = 5, no fuss about fractions of a month.
