If I were to select a music entertainer (and I would not so select) some one like Frank Sinatra or Caruso Enrico, or Scott Joplin, or Leonard Bernstein would be far more apropos than James Brown.
Clearly between James Brown and President Gerald Ford one must select Gerald Ford. He is truly a role model to which we can have the young emulate. In addition to his Congressional life, he turned the country from sinking into the pit of focusing on the foibles of Richard Nixon for another 4 or 5 years and instead to look to the future. He did so knowing that this would negatively impact his political career. He did it because he knew (and time has proven him correct) it was the right thing to do.
James Brown was a prime influence in the evolution of gospel and rhythm and blues into soul and funk. In certain segments of the music world he is considered a major influence and innovator and here he stands on his own earning all of the plaudits others wish to give him.
However, how anyone can put the two of them in same sentence in terms of which had the most profound impact on the country is beyond my ken. Comparing their personal lives is not fair to James Brown which had many problems in addition to jail time. On the other hand, Gerald Ford’s live was exemplary.

James Brown had a great effect on music. He was the hardest working man in show business and the Godfather of Soul but Gerald Ford made history as the man that pardoned Nixon and the Vietnam draft dodgers. Gerald Ford helped heal the nation when Watergate tore it apart.

James Brown. He was the Godfather of Soul. Gerald Ford was only President for 900 something days. He did a decent job, but he wasn't there long enough to influence things that much. James Brown influenced many musicians past and present. His music had a rhythm all of its own.
