I think that when we all close our eyes we feel at peace because we don't see any of our problems around us. We may even sleep and dream about the things we wish we could do. Thus we don't want to wake from the dream. I have felt similar to this at times. When I feel low or sad about something. But this can be caused by depression too. I have been depressed alot too. If you feel it is getting to that state, then you must go to see a doctor about this. For this could get worse if not treated.
All our lives have value, and we all should cherish our lives, a gift from God. But if we feel like giving up on it, and staying a sleep for a long time, then we need help from someone.
There is nothing wrong with getting help from others. This is something we all have done before, ask for help.

Well, technically what you're describing isn't a "symptom" of depression, at least if you're looking at the formal symptoms used to define the condition (which include things like depressed mood, a loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities, sleeping problems, appetite problems, fatigue, attention/concentration problems, undue feelings of guilt, etc.).
On the other hand, what you're describing could be related to the depression, particularly if the feeling you describe is somehow fatalistic -- such as a desire to "never wake up." People who suffer from depression often long for a release from the profound emotional pain they feel -- and what you're describing could be consistent with that.
On the other hand, if what you're noticing is simply a feeling of peace and calm that comes from focusing on, say, you're breathing -- that could be a natural state of meditative relaxation.
In any case, my hope for you would be that you're getting treatment (or will consider getting treatment) if you feel you might be suffering from depression. Very often, a combination of therapy, lifestyle changes (like improved exercise and nutrition), and sometimes medications can be very helpful. Best wishes to you.

Could be. Especially if you do not want to open your eyes out of an anxiety associated with external events present or just a hysteria of imaginary proportions. Seek the definition related to clinical depression in wikipedia or elsewhere and if you find a relation and feel you fit the definition perhaps some professional help is in your best interest.

Hey, trust me you f**king know about it if you have clinical depression.
Well maybe not at the time, but for sure, after.
However i ain't no ****** and i know being real sad sucks.
I have a symptom that means my eyes close at there own will!
Sounds real silly i know, and by god it's frustrating.
I want to open my eyes and can't!!!!
But also i know, i really really reall yreally realyy like sleep!!!
mm mm m mmmm1
so i guess that's kinda close to keeping your eyes closed.
i guess the only likely psych answer to your question is that, you "feel a need" to escape your current reality, and closing your eyes is a step towards that.
You even realize this with your statement "i don't want to open them again for a long time".
I would suggest a new hobby.

When we become stressed or nervous people often tell you to shut your eyes and count to ten, it calms our nerves. This is similar to what you are experiencing. You may be going through a stressful period at the moment.
This is also why people start to meditate, it helps people to relax and ease the tension in their minds.
