I wrote yesterday about a dog in my 4 plex living in terrible conditions. Well I reported it and the Military Police came to our complex, but I made the call anonymously because the dog's owner is someone that I don't get along with anyhow. (she's been out of town though). The MPs said the dog was fine and that they couldn't do anything for it! There is a winter storm advisory for our area and snow is falling. What can I do within my legal rights for this dog? The lady is home as of today, but still has yet to care for the dog. We don't have an onpost humane society. All we have are the Military Police and our housing policy to go by. What can I do for this dog?

The owner just got home a few minutes ago, and she lives on the second story. I can't get to the dog without climbing the porches or breaking into her home. I wish I could go up there and take the poor thing and bring it into my house, but now that she's home I don't know what I can do for it.

Do you have a VTF on your base? If you do contact the veterinarian to find out their opion on what is neglect and abuse.

Then I would put in a formal complant with your building coordinator (who ever is responsible for your building). If nothing is still done, then go one step further, take it through the housing office, and keep climbing until you get to the Base Comander of BSB Commander.

From my own expierence the Building coordinator is the one that usually resolves the complaint, and the Housing Office is usually good at making sure the problem is resolved.

Wost case senario, contact the local human society and they will alert the authorities who will contact the MP and they will work it out on how to handle the case (usually to coordinate an investigation), usually trying not to involve the BSB or Base Comander because he'll get upset with the negitive press.

Good luck.

First of all this is a horrible situation. As a vet I really love animals. Tell you what since you don't get along with the owner go buy food, and blankets for the dog open the bag of food first and take it to her. Now here is the catch tell her that a friend gave it to you because you wanted a dog and that you changed your mind so figured she might want it. If that doesn't work offer to help her vare for the dog when she is gone atleast then you can have peace of mind.

If you think she is gone and wouldn't care, take a blanket over for the dog and feed and water it. Also you can buy heating packs for campers at Walmart. They keep heating for 8 hours.

Report this to the national Humane Society. They will help I'm sure. Don't stop until you know the dog has been taken from such bad owners.

Go over there and tell her to get her act together, either give the dog up for adoption or keep it and take care of it.
