In junior high, are pom poms, poularity, hot guys, fitting in, standing out, being true, having friends, getting a's, being a cheerleader, wearing name brand clothes, being hilarious, and trying to just be everything you're not like totally SHOULD'NT be the biggest things? I'm confused. I don't know really where i stand...i mean i have what i believe...i have what i know...and i know what i know...but how do you just know?

I've been in a very similar position as you in the past... in many ways, I still am. Popularity meant a lot, and I really didn't have much of that until I broke free - I started wearing Abercrombie and Fitch, hanging out with as many different people in various cliques possible, and things started working for me. I had a reputation for being smart, funny, outgoing, somewhat loud, but it really made my last year of high school a great time.

Feeling unpopular can really suck.. I've been through it. The key is just to be confident with yourself, and if you are, your personality will make your looks and everything about you glow. You'll make friends, people will like you, and name brand clothing simply won't make any difference.

None of these should be the biggest things of junior or senior high school. It should just be a level playing field where everybody can enjoy their time as teenagers, but especially in public schools, this is much more difficult to come by. I had my little brother go to a boarding school, and he calls it more like summer camp than school because he's able to be himself, have fun, and have the independence that a traditional public high school simply won't offer.

I decided to end high school at the end of my sophomore year because the academics were terrible, but what's usually considered "the biggest things of high school" I really did get out of. I decided to go to college early, and it's been one wild journey.

My final point is... if you really don't like junior or senior high school, try asking your parents to send you to a more liberal, open minded, progressive boarding school or early college. It's really the environment that will make the biggest difference in these important years of your life.

Best of luck! Feel free to IM me. (mah10538) via yahoo.

well, though i am a cheerleader and get a's, all those things are just part of being "in".
what matters to you? grades? fashion? before you turn around and look at what other popular girls r doing, make sure you know what YOU want to do. once you find where you are for sure (even though you say you know what you know, it sure doesnt seem like you are secure with it) then you can find true friends who have the same interests as you. what grade are you in? 6th?7th? 8th? those are the harder years, making friends is harder and finding who to hang out with is hard. once you find your group, they will help you to be really secure and that's where you'll stand. once you're in high school, everything is easier and you won't have to worry about all this stuff. it will flow naturally.
hang in there!
dont give up and know that giving up who you are now is going to be horrible for you in the future.
good luck (PS, i went through all this. just chill out and it will all work out)

Its about loving who you are and loving your group of friends, regardless of their popularity. They should actually care about you and know who you are and have nothing fake or pretend about their relationships with you.
