I don't know of a breed that is anywhere near the stupidity of a Pug. They are as dumb as a box of rocks. I have several friends who have Pugs. One has bowed front legs from weak bones as a puppy. Another has had over $15,000 worth of surgery to correct problems with his eyes, ears, dewclaws getting ingrown, and two bladder surgeries that were unable to explain why the dog always had blood in his urine.
Their eyes are very subsceptible to injury. They have a hard time breathing in the heat due to the short nose---are you convinced yet?
Help her find a dog that isn't known for such problems. You may find a little mutt or purebred dog at a local shelter that she can be excited about!

Go to www.akc.org, and look for your closest chapter of the Pug club. Get in touch with some members, who will happy to answer your questions to make sure it is a good choice for your family. These are the reputable breeders that are working to improve the breed, bringing well-bred healthy Pugs into the world for good companions. Good luck!

Generally a good dog. I usually avoid purebreds because they can get medical problems when they are older due to lack of genetic variance. Here is a good website about what you need to know about Pug health.

I would honestly suggest a mix breed.
