I joined a volleyball team a couple of weeks ago making a tight commitment to myself and my team. But when they chose teams everything changed. Now i'm on the B team...(Which i consider the BAD team) instead of the A team...(Which we all know means ATHLETIC!) Now i'm all bummed and feel like the coaches think they're soooo perfect and i haven't got a way to measure up. After thinking about it for a long while, i've decided to stop wasting my parent's money and quit. But how do i confront my dad about me hating his favorite sport? I mean, should i quit? i hate it. And here's the other thing... my coach for voleyball is also my coach at my school...i'm afraid that she'll despise me now...what do i do?

It seems this problem is layered. First, it sounds like you fully expected to make an "A" team, but overrated yourself, and underrated your competition. As such, you're taking it out on the coaches who have seemingly maligned you. Not to say there aren't politics in sports, but you haven't stated how you did in try-outs.

Second, it seems another wrinkle is that "this is your dad's favorite sport". Are you playing on this team for you or for him?

In summary, you did make a commitment, you now have teammates (other than the ones you expected) to live up to, and have a choice to make: are you going to walk away now because of the LABEL of being on a B team, or are you going to play to your (undisclosed) capability and elevate the team you're on to a higher standard?

At the risk of sounding "high and mighty", you seem pretty precocious about this....being knocked down a peg for a season might help you focus less on your PERCEPTION of the game (and how it defines you) and more on your ability to play it well and contribute to the team around you.

I have coached enough teams that I can say without doubt that I would rather have 10 players who have something to prove than 1 player who feels they deserve better than they have.
Just food for thought.

i think you should go on ebay or goggle sometime and try tp find tips or vidioes on the sport and on ambishious girls once you get good at the sport youll get on the A team and you will feel good and so will your family you jst need to work hard at it and whatever you do dont quit the team your team and your coach will be proud of you

Good Luck and happy new year! :-D

I would just stick it out and let things work out

I would rather be on a team that would underrate you than overrate you

JUST TRY TO HANG IN THERE FOR JUST THIS ONE SEASON. THAT WAY YOU'LL FIND OUT ABOUT IT AND YOUR DAD WILL BE HAPPY FOR 1 SEASON. MAYBE HE'LL GET TO SEE YOU PLAY AND REALIZE IT'S NOT THE SPORT FOR YOU. BUT YOU GAVE IT YOUR ALL.
