sexual abuse is *ordinarily* not about sex.
some people may act this way because of a need for power and control. others may be out of touch with reality and may not believe that it's wrong or abnormal. still others may delusionally believe that the child feels a reciprocal attraction.
alcohol or substance abuse is not uncommon
in general, however, it's more common for step parents to sexually abuse a child than it is for a natural parent to sexually abuse a child

Us men were asked a question something like this by the females in one of my sociology classes my junior year of college. We dove into this subject for a whole week that year. In my humble opinion normal men who have healthy feelings towards their daughters and yes sons and young children do not understand why unhealthy men have these kind of feelings. I do not understand why a man would do this anymore then why some men are coward enough to beat around on a wife/women or child. I am not easy on men who do these things and give them little room for excuses like a sociologist or therapist would and maybe that is why I do not understand. I know I am not much help but I did want to share that experience with you.

They might of been sexually abused as a child and think this is something normal to do. Sadly this is something that was done in the past quite often. Especially because it was a well kept secret, and no one spoke out about it. Today people are more educated about abuse, and are more out spoken about this awful act.
I have learned to, that these abusers are either on drugs, or alcoholics at the time they abuse. So they have no sense, or they are mentally sick, with low self esteem. A few men see their wife's younger face in their daughters, and because they miss that young wife, they may get attracted to the child who looks similar. When I was young I was abused by some of my relatives, not raped, just touched. I think because these young men were going through puberty, and did not really understand what they were feeling. This may of influenced their actions, especially because back then sex was not talked about to the children. The children had to learn from their own experiences. I was always around them, and some of them even babysat me.
This does not justify what they did to me. But in order for me to have some closer in my life, I had to figure things out. This is what I have learned from years of observation, and from study of this matter.
Education is the key to this. We need to teach our kids at an early age, the do's and don'ts of sex. Also how to speak out if someone is touching them un-appropriately, or just saying things that are such. Also don't leave your children with just anybody. Really get to know the person you want to watch your kids, even if they are a relative. Tell your kids to talk to you about any matter, and really listen to them. If we show them the proper way to treat others, the children will learn that.
Some people may not like to hear this, but what we watch on T.V. can also affect the mind. Most porns, show men abusing women, or even men. People get into the shows so much that they may actually think life is really like this. So some men or even women abuse the innocent, for their pleasure, even some who may be their own children. The ones closest to them, easy access. Even though people think porn is just entertainment, it is not a good source for the teaching of what sexuall intercourse is really for.

Many reasons. I have come across sexual offenders who have misinterpreted the love they feel for their children (as something sexual, when it was fatherly love). Some have been taught by their own childhood sexual abuse. Some have wanted to control some part of their lives. Some have wanted to have power over another invididual. Some have just enjoyed the sexual experience. So, you can see that you can't categorise sexual offenders into one category.

You do not know much about men's evolved sexuality, do you? I expect you have seen and will see many social science ideological answers to this question. Though, if ever a question needed a ultimate, evolutionary perspective, this one does. To repeat the usual nonsense that sex has nothing to do with sex and only to do with violence, control or power here seems rather an ideological dodge, having nothing to do with the problem of father/daughter incest. To say that step-fathers are many more times guilty of this, is to state a banality that is rather obvious. We are not sure about the causes of rape yet to make any such sweeping statements, as the ones made by the Susan Brownmiller section of social science. It is highly suggested though, that ultimately, it has much to do with men,s evolved sexual strategy. The proximate, or day to day, man to man causes are so variant that only social scientists seem to want to make such overly pertinent.

True, there is a serious " sick' problem with these men.
Other than what has already been mentioned I would also add,
it may be a matter of taking away the innocence of their daughters however young the daughters may be.

Because they get away with it.
Humans are sexual beings, but to choose a defenseless child, is the worst of the worst.
I can't understand why they don't pick on someone their own size.
GOD bless.

Sexual abuse has nothing to do with attraction. It is all about control and power over another person. It's the same as rape and all other kinds of abuse. Don't kid yourself, these people don't have "overactive sex-drives," they want power and control over another person, and they don't care how much it hurts that person.
