Simple answer: Jupiter is 5 AU from the Sun and therefore 4 to 6 AU from the earth depending on where we both are in our orbits,

If you consider aphelion and perihelion of both planets, the range is more like 3.95 AU to 6.47 AU.

Obviously the distance between them changes all the time, as the orbits are not in phase with one another and Jupiter's year = 11.86 Earth years.

Hello Nya:

The problem with your question is... How far away from what?

Jupiter is a huge planet with a diameter of 88,846 Miles and it is circling the Sun in an orbit that takes 11.86 Earth Years to complete one loop all the way around.

Jupiter is, on average, 483.7 million miles from the Sun (not a perfect circular orbit). It also has 63 moons circling around it.

The distance from Earth to Jupiter varies with the Earth's orbit around the Sun, and or course, Jupiter's orbit around the Sun.
So, if you were to ask the question "Jupiter's distance from the Earth?" you would probably get all kinds of answers, but if the Earth is 93 million miles from the Sun, and Jupiter is 483.7 million miles from the Sun, math says that the minimum distance from the Earth to Jupiter is 390.7 million miles, and the maximum distance between Earth and Jupiter is 576.7 million miles. Those numbers are probably in the right ball park assuming direct alignment in a straight line.

Jupiter's gravity is about 20,000 times that of the Earth's gravity. So a human being would not even be able to walk on the planet if its surface was agreeable for mankind, which it is not.
