CC this is not an Astronomy question, but diamonds are formed under the Earth by tons and tons of pressure squeezing carbon for years and years. Somehow, man finds a sample diamond in some rock outcroppings and mines are dug to get more. The rough diamonds are processed and shipped off to be ground, cut , and polished by craftsmen and the finished product is very nice to look at. Residue from all these processes is used to fabricate specialized machine tools and cutting bits for industry.

Since nobody else has answered that I can see, I'll take a stab at it.

Diamonds are unique among precious stones since they're formed from a single element not a combination - they're pure carbon.

Graphite is another form of carbon, which you get in pencils - the fact that pencils can be so cheap is an interesting fact and tells us how much money can symbolise one molecular network over another.

Forms of carbon in the ground, like coal and even organic fossils will under enough pressure spontaneously form diamonds. Small diamonds can be made under laboratory conditions and nowadays you can even have a small diamond made from the ashes of someone who has just been cremated!

Diamonds are made by pressing carbon under extreme heat and pressure, as mentioned by others.

Yes, you can make diamonds and that doesn't make them 'fake', that makes them 'artificial'. A 'fake' diamond would be a cubic zarconia, which have a similar molecular structure, but are much more common and easy to produce.

This is very poor grammar, maybe you would be better off worrying about your own short commings? Using the short commings of others to make you feel superior is just lieing to yourself.

The process takes a long time
Put a carbon under the gound and berry it and you have to wait until it becomes a dimond????
And I kmow why did you categorize your question in this category!!!!!!!!!!

You place carbon atoms in a tetrahedral crystal rather than the more usual planar form which is graphite.

So take a lump of coal and put it under extreme of pressure of 5 gigapascals and heat them to 1200C, cook for a while and then grab your diamonds when they cool down.

This is how synthetic industrial grade diamonds are made. These diamonds are small and like grit. They can be used to coat the surface of cutting tools like one of the wheels in my Dremel set.

You don't MAKE diamonds! They come from those little ugly rocks outside your house! Just imagine those ugly things turning into diamonds!!! But don't be a fool and start digging...maybe when you're 890!

you cant make diamonds. if people could then there would be no needs for going to the store to buy diamond earings, necklaces, bracelets, etc. they are found in areas with lots of heat and pressure
