The women that cry and scream "Noooo." without doing anything to save themselves. I watch old horror movies sometimes and it's really annoying watching someone go "Stop! Stop! Leave me alone! Go away!" instead of using something as a weapon to bash the guys head in with. Sorry about generalizing this to women only but it's usually women who do these things in old horror movies. Like the original Night of the Living Dead. Barbara just sat there the entire movie and didn't put a fight up when the zombies grabbed her. Which is exactly why I like the remake more. Barbara in the remake kicks *** and never breaks down (except for the beginning for a bit) and is a far better character.

I agree with you. Even when two men are fighting I always wish the female would grab something and bash the monster or whatever in the head. The other thing about movies that drives me crazy is why in the world would anyone go to the attic, basement, woods or any of those places alone when they know that the scary things are there. I like movies that scare me but don't insult my IQ. Thanks for you perspective.

They sure do. Their screaming and wailing makes my ears hurt. They sound like such stupid, pathetic little wimps. It's very unrealistic. Portraying them as Amazonian super-warriors is a little unrealistic too, but most women wouldn't just go 'Aaaaaaaaaaah!' and do absolutely nothing while being pursued by a monster. They have more brains than men seem to think, or want to think, anyway. You can see by the kind of characters women play in movies now, compared to then, that perceptions of women really have changed a lot. Not absolutely all old horror movies have pathetic little damsels in distress like that, but most do. However, the remake of Night of the Living Dead is still crap.

Yes it is rather annoying, especially as they twist their ankles the second they try to run away. It's also kind of funny as well, though.

My bf can't stand them either, he is NOT into the damsel in distress fantasy, but his best male friend finds it a complete turn on and has a large collection of these crummy old movies and tv shows for his erotic pleasure.

Hell yes they make females seem useless frail brainless especially when its human nature to attempt to save ones-self
and darn if they dont trip over the smallest twig imaginable they seem more afraid of breaking a nail then causing some whoop a**
Faced with something you cant fight at least run not jog or totter along on high heels i would rather see them attempt to fight then do the oh dear im whipped scene but it still makes me laugh when you have fools like paris hilton trying to bring off a scary scene today its definetly turn off that film time

Women in general rely on the male figures to protect them. Some are able to defend themselves, for real though... how many 130 lb., 5' 6" women could take down a normal man... much less some freaky, horrifying creature?

The movies were scripted and directed with the intent of the women being damsels in distress.

Actually, when overwhelmed with fear, one may panic and act with less logic than usual. Though I despise this fact, it is true that hundreds of women are raped daily. I'm certain most of these women are capable of running and/or grabbing a foreign object to defend themselves. However, as I stated, these women are overcome by fear before they are overcome by the men.

What you pose is a false dichotomy. You react to one false depiction by proposing another. What I find irritating now day is how women are falsely portrayed as super-warriors. Not exactly the accurate refection of real life. Let us get real and stop dichotomous presentations of human behavior and show truth on the screen; for once.
