I am a veterinary technician, i just graduated in June. I was wondering if anyone else works with animals, and what your job is. I wish i was rich so i could just volunteer at an animal shelter, but i can't because i have to pay the bills. So i was just wondering what other jobs there are out there where i can work with animals in case i want to change jobs in the future.

i have volunteered at an animal shelter since i was 14, and that is where my heart lyes. But i know animals shelters don't have the budget to hire a ton of people. So i thought that i would love being a vet tech too. Seeing as how i get to help animals, but i also get paid for it. WELL, after working as a vet tech for 7 months, i don't feel like i am helping very much, like i was helping at the animal shelter. I mostly just help with animals who need vaccines or routine care. And i love working with animals everyday, i just think there might be more fulfilling jobs out there.

You could be an...
# Educator
# Environmental Management
# Environmental Chemistry
# Forestry/Park Ranger
# Interpretive Naturalist
# Natural Resources Management
# Wildlife Rehabilitator
or you could get some kind of job in a zoo such as a...
* Director
* Supervisor
* Keeper
* Habitat Specialist
* Researcher
or you could open your own kind of business like grooming, training, or babysitting?
Not to be rude or anything but why did you go for all the college of being a vet tech. if you don't plan on doing it in the future? Thats like a huge waist of money and learning personally.
Sorry...I don't mean to be rude but it's confusing.

I am a Vet Tech also. I work part time at a shelter and volunteer some other hours also. I foster cats and sometimes a dog or two. That is the down side to being a Vet Tech!! The money is AWFUL!!!!!!! Some days it seems barely worth it!!!!!!!! Sadly, not many jobs with animals pay a lot!!!!

Yes I work the front desk at an animal shelter, but most of the time I find myself in the back playing with the dogs and cats. Its a very fulfilling job.

i am a dog groomer. i love it. had to go to school for it, but some are apprenticed. i also teach grooming, was hired after i graduated. i make pretty decent money. i'm paid hourly because i groom and teach. most groomers work on commission. so you have to do about 12 - 15 dogs a day to make money. i find it very rewarding. the co. i work for works with a shelter. if they get dogs in that are a total mess, and i mean some are horrible. it's sad. we groom them so they can find homes. most people won't look at a dog and say, "oh he'll be real cute when he's groomed" they just pass them up. i've found the whole personality changes when the dog is groomed. i've seen dogs with mats so tight around their legs, that the hair actually is cutting in to the skin. you just know they feel 100% better. and a vet can't see any problems through all those mats. i love my job!

Yes, I do have a job with animals, but it isn't my career. I work at the SPCA animal shelter. It is my job, but I like working there. I sometimes forget I am even doing it for money. It gives me a good feeling to just be helping dogs and cats in need, and making them comfortable. You could work at a shelter in the future, it is rewarding, but a loot of work and long hours, and little pay. You could also one day work for a wildlife rescue center, or even open up your own rescue center for dogs, rodents, anything! There are alot of possiblities for working in the animal field, the only downside is not a lot of money can be made, unless you're a vet... But if your passion is for the animals, then it is all worth it!!! :)
