Many communists are not going to admit it publically. They have gone "underground" with their beliefs. In other words, Kucinich is in fact a commie, albeit a "closet commie"
The communist, by necessity, practises the arts of deception, fraud and propaganda. So some of them trying to pass themselves off as "liberal", "progressive" or some such thing is no suprise.

Terms like Right Wing, Centrist and Left Wing are ways of describing the spectrum of politics.
Just because the Media has focussed upon the debate between the Center and the Right does not mean the Left no longer exists.
American political debate has moved to the Right.
In order to be heard the Left has moved to the Right also.
Those so-called Centrists, like Hillory Clinton, are still Liberal; they just add the terms of the Left to their rhetoric in order to be heard.
You can find out more by reading about Liberal and Conservative politics in Wikipedia.

Today's conservatives are not much more conservative than the liberals of 30 or 40 years ago. Today's "centrists" are liberal, and the Left is way out there. To suggest Kucinich is a centrist borders on the absurd. Unfortunately, there is not much of a debate. If liberals would actually debate issues, they would lose, so they resort to Bush-hatred and name-calling.
I say, as far as the Left-Right debate goes: Bring It On!

It is a sad fact that one can go so far to the left that they become far right. Ex.: The "left" would like nothing more than to "Level the playing field." To do this, they must pass laws stripping priviledge from those who've earned it to give it to those who've not earned it. Laws are designed to control people and their behavior. Pass enough laws, strip enough of the priviledge away and what you have is a dictatorship. At that point what sense is there in striving to get ahead? The government will only take it away and give it to the lazy and "stupid." Yes, there really IS a "left." They support affirmative action, welfare, the ACLU and Title IX. And for the record, Lincoln was a "Republican," it was the democrats who supported the institution of slavery in the U.S.. Funny that so many liberals would choose to support such an organization. Welfare is slavery reconstituted.

Trust me,he's close enough.Seriously that's a good point.I guess "left" and "right"mean different things to different people. For example you identify centrist and right wing.I would probably consider you a left winger as I think right wingers are far closer to the center.

well I think the left are the pretty much average Americans that don't like to censor everything. Some people are like extreme left wing and some aren't. Then you have people who are conservative, the name speaks for itself. They like to control things and censor things without anyone speaking out. It's hardly communist and capitolism which are far more ways of economics. Its really about freedoms, if you haven't notice that more laws and things you can do and can't do keep expanding. Some are needed, but many are not.

"Does the Left really exist?"
That's an interesting question. Unfortunately, and I can't explain why, yes, the left exists. They exist because when the right fights to retain our freedoms, they fight for all Americans. The left don't appreciate this, but its the sad truth, none the less.

No, the left does not exist in any form aside from nominal. Its a mosaic of varying groups that don't get along beyond being 'anti-bush, anti-republican' and thus don't really have much of a specific positive agenda.
