coffee at a young age can cause bad teath and heart problems when you're older if you drink it a lot as a kid. I drink it, just one every 3 or 4 weeks. that or hot coco. (yes, i still like it. lol.)

I started drinking tea when I was your age, and my brother used to drink it as a toddler in his feed bottle.

Tea has the same amount of caffeine in it as coffee, but there is a compound in it which counteracts the caffeine, making the caffeine "hit" from it much lower.

I didn't drink coffee until I was 14 or 15, and I didn't really like it, so have stuck to tea, which is full of flavonoids and polyphenols.

However, your mom makes the rules, so basically you have to do what she says. You could always ask your doctor for his or her advice on the issue. I've included a link to an article on the benefits of tea drinking in case you think she might change her mind.

PS If your mom means not to drink cola, then I agree with her - it's disgusting stuff and full of sugar. Nobody should drink it, no matter what their age.

I think caffeine is always bad for you, no matter how old you are. But a lot of kids drink soda and stuff like that. If you mean coffee, wait until you really need it if you want to drink it (like when you're in college). Tea is much better for you, though.

Well it's never good for you. I personally can't stand coffee or tea. I don't like their taste. I love pop, but I wish I didn't. It's so many empty calories. My kids aren't allowed to drink pop yet. I will probably let them have it occasionally when they are in high school (they are 9,7, and 2). I guess when they're 18 they will be doing what they want.

Parents always thinks best about their children so my advise to you not to drink caffeine until you know what is good for you and what is bad for you. when you will be mature (at the age of 18 -21) then you will know your mom and myself are right.

I started drinking hot tea when I was 7 or 8 (iced tea earlier than that, along with Pepsi). Never bothered me.

My grandson has been drinking coffee at my house since he was a toddler.

I wam up 3/4 cup of milk, add just enough coffee to flavor it, add some sugar. He thinks it is coffee. LOL
