1. Tom Seaver
2. Mike Piazza
3. Dwight Gooden
4. Keith Hernandez
5. Darryl Strawberry

Every answer so far is very good...Beltran, Wright and Reyes are all excellent players but in their 2, 3, and 4 years respectfullly some of them are the top 5 Mets of all-time???
Give em all about ten years and Wright will probably kick out Strawberry, but he's got a little ways to go.
Good question and all are good answers.

1. seaver, tom terrific the only met hall of famer
2. Mike piazza, the greatest hitting catcher and the best met hitter of all time
3. Gooden he was so dominant in the 80's and led the mets to their 2nd championship
4. strawberry, would have had 500hr if he didn't get involved with drugs.
5a. Keith Hernandez- 11 straight gold gloves and great hitter
5b. Garry carter- hall of famer and started that rally against the sox in 86 with a single and two outs
Honorable mentions: In ten years Reyes, Wright and Beltran will be on this list

Let's break it down to position!

P - Tom Seaver/Dwight Gooden (tie)
1B - Keith Hernandez
2B - Edgardo Alfonzo
3B - David Wright
SS - Jose Reyes
LF - Mookie Wilson (Cliff Floyd a CLOSE second)
CF - Tommie Agee (Carlos Beltran a CLOSE second)
RF - Darryl Strawberry
C - Mike Piazza/Gary Carter (tie)
RELIEF - Jesse Orosco.

It's more than five but being that people picked the same five for the most part, I thought I'd vary out the question.
