Please answer only if you've read HBP. For some reason, i really trust Snape. And that's saying a lot for me, because i barely trust anyone in the real world, much less some apparently traitorous double-dealing man. So, why is it that i'm not only taken, but also unquestionably trusting of Snape?? Does anyone else feel this way as well? If so, why?

Yeah, I know he killed Dumbledore. Funny thing, though. I started trusting him even more after that....in fact, i started believing he was evil even less than before.

No, I don't hate the good guys. I support Dumbledore and his theories, but even Dumbledore himself admits he can be wrong, right? By the way, great answers (xcept 41, who needs to sort out his priorities, lol). Keep it up!

I am not "unquestionably trusting" of Snape but I suspect that he may still be on Harry's side. I think he killed Dumbledore because he had too, Snape make the Unbreakable vow with Drako's mother Narcissa. (The Half-Blood Prince pg. 36-37)
I also suspect he is on the right side because at the end of the book he does not let the other death eaters kill Harry (HBP pg. 603)
Snape also offers advice to Harry like:
"No unforgivable curses, Potter! You haven't got the nerve or the ability-" (HBP pg.602)
"Blocked again and again and again until you learn to keep your mouth shut and your mind closed, Potter" (HBP pg.603)
I also believe Dumbledore knew of the Unbreakable Vow and that is why he was not concerned when Harry told Dumbledore his suspicions about Snape. Harry was told to trust Dumbledore's judgment.
For all the reasons listed above I think Snape may be on the good side. I am eagerly anticipating "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" which will be released 07/07/07.

Actually, I do trust Snape. I have a theory and I'm 99.9% sure i'm right. lol.
Albus Dumbledore knows that the only way Harry is ever going to get close enough to Voldemort is to have an ally on the inside. Therefore, he was going to put someone into position: Severus Snape.
He ordered Snape to kill him, because that was the only way that Voldemort would ever trust Snape again. Remember, Dumbledore was a very smart man.
I have quite a lot of evidence to back this up..but remember right before Dumbledore died...J.K. Rowling said that he was begging? Dumbledore...begging for his life? Does anyone honestly think Dumbledore would beg for his life? No....Dumbledore had to be begging Snape to carry out his mission..which is why Snape was glaring at him with such venomence. He obviously didn't want to kill Dumbledore.
Now, Snape is in a position to help Harry when the time comes.
So, what do you think? I am absolutely sure I'm right, due to other evidence I did not list. Dumbledore did not fake his death..he is dead.
(Remember the Pheonix's song?)

I do, I have a ending to the last book. I was thinking about ever since I've read it and just the other day it came to me. Snape is good, Dumbledore is not that stupid to trust him if he shouldn't. He's far to Good of a wizard for that. I think at the beginning of the book, Snape was put in an awkward situation when he was visited by Melfoys mom. In order to finally stop and destroy the Dark Lord, Snape had to go ahead and perform the unbreakable vow. When he told Dumbledore about this and when the time came to it, let it be Snape or Albus die, Albus told him to do it. Snape is more valuable alive then dead. He's good at blocking his mind, he can also get close to the Dark Lord. At the end when they were running from Hogwarts to the gates so they can disaperate, he kept yelling at Harry to block his mind ... meaning keep learning, teach yourself. This is my views either way :-) Hope it's good!!

I'm still not sure how I feel about Snape. I want to believe he's on the side of good, but I just don't know......I think the whole he killed Dumbledore thing was a plan between Snape and Dumbledore to save Draco's "soul", though.

I also don't believe he is really a Death Eater. Dumbledore trusted him. Also, he's had many occasions to kill Harry if he wanted to, but he didn't. I think at the end of the last book when Dumpledore said, "Severus....please," that they had it worked out that if they were in that sort of situation where it came down to his life or Harry's, he would take Dumbledore's. There is a lot about Snape that we don't know -- I think we'll learn many new things about him in book 7!

I do... I think Dumbledore will come back and that him and Snape planned for him to 'kill' Dumbledore. I don't think dumbledore is really dead. I think it just would not make any since to have him be a bad guy. There is a mearsure of predictability with these books and I think it would be out of Rowlings style to have him be evil.

Yes! I totally think that Snape is the unsong hero of the story. He has been watching Potters back the whole time, like when Quirell was putting a spell on Potters broom and Snape was doing a counter spell. I think he had to "kill" Dumbuldore becasue Dombuldore trusted him and asked him to for some reason that we wont know til later on. I definetly think he is a good guy.

Well...I believe in Dumbledore & he ALWAYS trusted Snape. I think that Snape & Dumbledore planned the seeming betrayal, and that ultimately Snape will be proven a hero :)

First of all, Dumbledore is dead. Poof, gone, not coming back!! There are other ways Harry will be able to communicate with him, however. Second of all, I do think Snape is good, for several reasons already listed here so I won't drone on and on.
