why don't people care if they seem ignorant anymore? does it bother anyone else? are we really comfortable with the collective IQ's of the younger generation that seem to be lazier than any other and have no ambition to make life better?

My wife and I have discussed this many times recently. It appears the younger generation of Americans firmly believe that having a good education where they actually learn anything is not important as long as they have the diploma or college degree.

It does not appear that learning to spell properly, or possessing the ability to conduct an intelligent conversation is important.

The younger generation complains about having to go to work and many actually state they wish they could retire, work is such a drag.

It appears the younger generation lacks the drive, ambition, and morals to conduct themselves in any adult fashion and could care less what the older generation thinks of them. They consider us just "Old Bag's of hot air". It bother's me, that so many feel this way.

Ignorant people don't know they appear ignorant, because, well.. they're ignorant. Yes, it bothers me every time I encounter a sales clerk that can't seem to do their job right or have to talk to someone over the phone in customer service that seems to have misplaced their ears and can't understand what is being said to them. I am scared for our upcoming generation because we have so many unwanted children being raised right now, which leads to neglect, which leads to poor success in school and hence puts unproductive people out into society. We also have massive problems in our public education system and so many kids are falling through the cracks. Fortunately, not all kids are this way, and there are those out there to make a difference in the world- just look to the non-profit sector and you will see more non-profits being started by our young people than anyone else. Young people are trying to make the world better, it's just a huge problem and they can only take on one problem at a time. Every generation has it's problems- there are ignorant and non-productive people at every age level. All of us can make a difference- just go out and do one thing every day to make the world better, be it pick up trash, compliment someone or give a dime to a charity. It will take us all contributing to make things change, not just one generation, and if you are one of the people who is not ignorant, then get out and start the wheel rolling- don't wait for someone else to do it!

You're absolutely right. It appears that today's culture rewards ignorance by allowing teenagers to feast their minds on such filth as MTV and MySpace. Hardly anyone has made an effort to make our generation politically aware to any degree. Sad, sad, sad. (Wait a minute — I'm a teenager, too! Wow, I really am special!)

This generation doesn't have a clue, sad isn't it, but what can you do? Though, children are a reflection of their parents.
