It was called a muff, and they really did keep your hands warm. My mother had one that belonged to my great grandmother.

They were called "muffs" - sometimes they kept a small dog in them as an extra warmer - also hot potatoes were sometimes used as a warmer

It was called a muff. I don't believe they make them today, if they don't, they should. They keep your hands much warmer than any glove or mitten made today.

Erm...a Muff. Had one when I was younger, all soft and fluffy. Don't know what happened to it! It was soo warm and cosy.

Thy were muffs........we still have 1 here.......they are well easy to make although real fur shouldn't be used nowadays.
