It feels a bit like having a bowling ball squeezed out of you - very difficult at first, but once the biggest part is out, the rest follows very quickly. It's hard work, but the rewards are fantastic!

With your first delivery you always worry about the pain of the baby actually coming out of you. I've had 3 children, 2 "natural", one with an epidural. The only pain I felt was the back labor during labor. When the baby comes out there is so much pressure down there you honestly don't feel any pain, only RELIEF to end the back pain and excitement about the delivery. My last delivery was with an epidural and it was wonderful. I was visitng with people in the room, drinking a coke and had a pain free labor and delivery (although I had to endure some labor pain before the epidural was given.). The baby was born healthy and alert and unstressed, unlike my other births where the babies at birth looked and acted like they had just been through hell. Why put yourself and your child through that, just to prove to someone you can "take the pain". And I don't believe it is "natural childbirth" to endure that much pain for no reason and to finally deliver and be too exhausted and worn out to enjoy that beautiful moment when that child is in your arms.

For me personally, it was the contractions which were the most painfull part, they just seem to drag on. pushing my son out was the easy part for me, after a week of early labour , it as a relief to finally get somewhere!

Second time round I had an epidural , baby went into destress and there was a chance I would have to have a c-section so doc put one in, baby seemed to calm down after this so ended up giving birth, and I can honestly say I would never have an epi again, I have had alot of back problems since.

It is the most painful thing you will ever feel. The contractions are bad, the actually delivery is even worse pain. On a pain scale of 1 to 10, its a 1000.

The contractions-which cause the dilation-hurt more than anything you could imagine. When the baby actually passes through the birth canal, it's not painful. Unless your water breaks and drains early and you have no fluid in there.

It hurts like hell. The worst pain you will ever feel.
I've had four children, all vaginally. NO MEDS. by the time I asked for meds, it was too late, I was already dilated to 8cm.
I was in labor with my first for 36hrs and had to have an episiotomy.
labor was 3+hrs my second, and I tore.
labor 1hr 45min with my third,
and 45min labor with my fourth child.
If you can go thru labor and childbirth with no meds, you can handle ANY physical pain.

It hurts a lot more than a C-section. And the medication doesn't really help with the pain at all.
