I think it means "the small view". As in, there is the microcosm and the macrocosm.
Looking at earth through the macrocosm might be sort of like viewing it from outer space.
Or at least, as a whole. Such as how the whole earth is affected by some particular thing. A universal view.
Then microcosm, or microcosmic view, would be viewing one small section of the whole, or looking at the smallest thing about it.
Even as far as viewing the microbes.
Hope that is right. But still, trying Wikipedia.com would be alot better sure bet!
