Here's a list of things to do before throwing your hands up in the air in frustration.
The fact that nothing is coming up on the screen means that there are several potential problems, but my first inclination is something came loose.
First, has anything NEW been added to the system? This means anything like video card, CD-RW, ram, etc. If so, this new item could very well be the reason. Remove said new item from system and try rebooting to see what happens. If it still fails, goto next step.
Second, take everything out of the system you don't absolutely need. The only thing you need in there besides the cpu, motherboard and power suppply are the video card and memory. Anything else mark and disconnect. If the system comes back up, reattach everything one at a time until the culprit is found. If it doesn't, goto next step.
Third, open the case and reseat EVERYTHING but the CPU. This will likely mean the video card, the ram, the network card, sound card and any other PCI goodies you have in there.
Fourth, if everything has been reseated and it still comes up the same, try removing the ram and installing into different slots. Same thing with PCI add ons.
If none of these options work, most likely a motherboard issue has occured and the best place to go would be a computer repair place that has the equipment to repair these. Make sure you get the cost of the diagnostic first as you will be able to decide whther or not the PC is even worth getting checked.

We must diagnose the patient.
Unplug the unit and open the case. Disconnect and reconnect each component inside to ensure a good connection. Cables, molex, ribbons, anything that can be done. Reseal the case and reconnect all of the cables in the back. POWER UP.
Nothing?
If you like the processor(and RAM) that you have find a replacement motherboard and change it out. If this is your first time inside your machine make a drawing as you disconnect your wires and devices. If possiple change the fan and processor last. After reconnecting the cables and devices.close the case and POWER UP!
Nothing?
Then replace the processor. Reconnect, close POWER!!
NOTHING?!
At this point you can try replacing RAM (but only as a LAST resort). Replace the Original components and try getting the operating system to re-install. If this fails consult a pro and take along the new parts to be diagnosed. It is possible, but odd, to get new parts that fail. But the odds are that it is the board due to a component that receives a signal from the supply, and the signal closes a circuit allowing for a constant flow of power.
Good luck in this.

Sounds like a bad motherboard based on your description....(if there were no power, I would say power supply, but with the fan running you have power). If you get a new computer, you can pull the hard drive from this one to pull your data.

Get a friend who knows something about computers to have
a look. Sounds to me like the monitor is unplugged.

If you were messing with the RAM, they might be bad sticks or not properly inserted.
