I'm doing a paper on this so here's my take on it. I saw a lot of Alexander the Great's and that's kinda what i expected. But my opinion is genghis khan because he was not just a great conqueror he was a great leader. He was one of the first in the world to create female welfare laws, and he is not the barbarian that everyone thinks he is. He is a strong believer in faith and he raised a successful empire that lasted long after his death, unlike Alexander's empire. I think Attila is too barbaric and Alexander isn't the ideal conqueror in shining bronze armor that he seems to be.

I thought Attila the Hun was the most interesting. Alexander was a big disappointment to me and The Khan too localized. I thought it was Attila who was stopped at Romes door. It was Pope Leo 1 who talked Attila out of sacking Rome.

All three conquerors were great warriors and rulers but my money goes to Ghengis.
-Biggest Empire
-Longest lasting Empire
-Didn't get conquered by Romans
-Civilized
-Ravaged fewer women than Atilla
-Had a soft spot for Religion
-Created the most culturlly diverse empire in History
And many more

I think religion would have to be the world's greatest conqueror. Since the beginning of time, man has been driven by religion. Granted, it has not always been pretty. (I hesitate to say God in fear of starting a holy war on Yahoo.)
Cavemen, Aztecs, Mayans, Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Buddhists, Taoists, Christians, Muslims and everything in-between has had religion as its main driving force.
Religion has conquered the world. The rest of the contenders are just short glimpses by comparison.

Well, it just has to be Alexander the Great, if only because he was the first gay man to demonstrate that they don't all have limp-wrists.
I wonder how many conquests he made which weren't countries?
Didn't Alexander LEAD his troops over the Himalayas?

Alexander the Great. He conquered most of what became the Roman empire and did so at a very young age(he died young).

I do not think it was Alexander the great, he conquered lands sure, and he left his lands to his generals to control--not a great leader.
