Depression, disconnect from fellow human beings, feelings of not belonging, despair. I really think this country's obesity problem is related to whatever it is that has fewer people nowadays saying they have a close confidante than did a decade ago. Consumerism has separated us from each other and teaches us that the only way to get love and happiness is to buy it.

Having no control over your consumerist conduct. Consumerist conduct overriding determinate will to do otherwise for example... not wanting to consume yet unable to stop. Willing oneself to walk yet rides in a vehicle. This is a negative effect of consumerism.
