I cannot hear in my left ear. It is thick and full feeling. This started about a week ago, and it almost went away, but now it is worse and I cannot hear properly, I'm to go to a party tonight and want to be able to hear! I took one Amoxicillan, (left over from strep) because my mother told me to. Please help! The doctor isn't open until Tuesday!

Hi, I'm an Audiologist

You won't get a quick fix to hearing loss! It sounds like you have fluid behind your eardrum. It may not be infected since you do not mention having any pain or fever.

Even if it were inected, 1 Amioxicillin isn't going to help! In fact, you are increasing the risk that the bacteria in your upper respiratory system will become RESISTANT to antibiotics because you didn't finish them for the strep, and now you're taking a small dose when you don't even know if you need it!

Decongestants can help, but usually take more than a few hours. You'll just have to deal with it for the night. I recommend taking it easy tonight and making sure you get plenty of fluids tonight; which means avoiding caffeine and alcohol (if you're old enough) because they remove fluids from your body.

Try to enjoy yourself, regardless; go see your Doctor on Tuesday; and have a Healthy, Happy 2007!

If you have small ears, you may get wax build up as I do. I have a small injector with a little plastic tube on the end to spray water inside my ear to clear hte buildup. I have to do it once every other week, or just about any kind of moisture will make my hearin go away in one ear. If you lost your hearing in a pool or shower. That could be a possible fix.

When did you lose your hearring? What were you doing at the time?

It is quite possible there is a load of wax in your ear. Perhaps you should consult your doctor. In the meanwhile, try putting a few drops of olive oil in your ear. But ON NO ACCOUNT should you put anything into your ear like a cotton bud to try to dislodge possible wax. Let's hope it is just wax. Good luck.

see if you have a fever,..and if you do, then you might want to go to the emergency room...don't mess around with this..but if it isn't a fever, it just might be impacted wax in your ear...they say warm olive oil on a q-tip is supposed to be healing...take some more antibiotics if you have them then. Have a happy new year

Aw, I have the very same thing. Wet a wash cloth with hot water, and held it on the bridge of your nose. Should help

Buy a box of sudafed. I have sinus and allergies and this will help until you can get to the doctor for antibiotics.
