He's recently split up with his girlfriend, and I just had a weird conversation with him on MSN - he seems very down and I wanna cheer him up.

Ouch. How bad was the break up?
It really depends on how bad it was
Just tell him to move on.
Sure.. there will be other girls.
He'll get over it.
Life is about the downs and ups,
it can't be perfect.
He'll proabbly be hurting for a while.
When you can tell he's down,
Ask him if he wants to talk about it.
If he says yes,
let him start.
Don't
start asking questions,
and don't
just get in his face
it'll rub it in
in his eyes.
There is a girl out there for him,
just wait and see.
Just don't bring up the subject.
Let him.
You'll knwo when he wants to talk about it.
I dunno
Some people just wanna be left alone
If he tells you to,
just give him space.
He proabably wants to think.
And if your both on IM,
wait for him to IM or talk to you.
Cause if he doesn't
he probably doesn't want to talk to ANYONE.
So dont take it personally.
Just help him along the way
Make him feel like you will always be there
for you.

Hope this helps.

Tell him you will always be there for him no matter what and if he needs you then you're here even though you're in different parts of the country. I'm sure that'll cheer him up

You need to sujest a time and place where you can meet up so he can speak to you in person.texts are impersonal.A letter would be better if that were your only solution. Then he always has it to read over again.Just tell him that you are there for him..the words will spill on the paper once you start..Do it tonight for the morning post!! We all need to feel that someone cares for us .

Let the person know that your still his friend. Let him know that its not the end of the world and he is a good person. If he shared some laughs with you, bring them up and remind him of those times. Let him know no matter what life brings, you'll be there even if its through text messaging or IM. Remind him of all of his qualities. Let him know that you care.

Don't text him. Fly over to his place and talk to him. When you talk to him, ask him if he wants to talk about the split. If he doesn't, than you could hang out with him and see if there's anything he does to cheer himself up that you could help him with. Not sex.

If that doesn't work, just go to the nearest bar and get hammered.

Well ,
Put yourself in his shoes. If you had just recently split up with someone , what would make you feel better ?
You are obviously close friends and you care about him.he cares about you too.So whenever you ar feeling down , he will return the favor . ( If he is smart that is )

Just be a friend, be and ear to listen and a shoulder to cry on. Tell him what you would want to hear in that situation.
