I think they should go to ordinary people, but 'stars' who are going about doing their jobs and getting paid very well. What about the people who do things for the good of mankind rather than themselves. I am surprised Blair didn't award a few more of his buddies - then he could have more 'freebie' holidays

Absolutely correct - and what about the actions of Service personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan? They don't seem to be getting much recognition of their service and sacrifice. The Queen's grandaughter gets a medal - well she already has one - there are far more deserving people who donate their time and talent free of charge in the community.

Ah for awards to go to ordinary people who deserve them you have to live in Utopia! Blair couldn't care less about the ordinary man/woman in the street, all he cares about is himself. Bet he puts himself in to be a Lord at some stage. As an aside - wasn't he the guy who at the start of his "reign" said there would be no slease in his Government - there's been nothing but.
