Why in todays society where women are being treated as objects and are used as an attraction to sell products (beer, cars, motorbikes, etc.) or she herself is being used to make money (prostitutes, escorts, strippers) are muslim women looked at as being oppressed for covering and protecting themselves from being degraded?

I am not a woman who degrades herself selling products with my good looks. You are comparing a minority of women against your majority. It's preposterous! Muslim women cannot do as they wish, I can. I can marry who I want. I can love who I want. I can impose my wishes on my family and my husband if I want. MUSLIM WOMEN HAVE NO CONTROL OF THEIR FATES AND LIVES. I DO! As do the majority of women who feel as I do who aren't selling their asses for money. They're in the court room prosecuting pigs, they're running prosperous businesses, they're operating functions of government.

Are you kidding and I don't mean that rudely. They believe in a man who was a petofile, he had I don't know how many wives and the youngest of which was 9 years old. He believed in Allah and that if the men died they got 72 virgins and etc., etc. and so the women terrorists muslims got what? When Bin Laden ruled Afganastan the women had to give up their professions, some were Doctors and they could not show their faces. Little girls were not allowed to go to school. All muslim cultures do this same thing. You can not wear pretty clothes visibly unless they are hidden under a burka, and you share your man with other women, a man meant under the God of Abraham, Isaac, King David, and Jesus to only be shared by one woman. Although I will say that our society, the non-Christian part and even unforuntately the Christian part have stopped obeying the Lord God Almighty in that area. What goes around will one day come around. However, most Christian women are married to one man for life and with dignity they can hold their heads up high, be a homemaker, or hold a job, have children and show their beautiful faces in the light that the Lord God Almighty made for them and their faces.

The oppression of women in some (not all) Muslim countries has nothing to do with the Burqa or the Hijab. In fact, I think we should get off the issue of what anyone wears as soon as possible, because that can be a valid choice.

The oppression of women in some Muslim societies has more to do with whether they can see a doctor when they are sick, whether they can go to school, vote, own their own properties, and be protected from rape, violence, honor killings, and other atrocities.

As long as women are safe and have the ability to live their lives in safety and security without a governing body saying it's okay to kill, disfigure or violate them, who cares what they put on their bodies?

The oppression the non-Muslim public sees via the media is not based on religion, it's based on culture. A lot of people are ignorant and accept what they see on tv rather than researching it. The people who believe that ALL muslim women are oppressed are probably the same ones who believe that crock about all those virgins awaiting Muslim martyrs in heaven. People need to arm themselves and learn the truth before setting their opinions in concrete. Knowledge is the key.

Society looks at muslim women as being oppressed because they are oppressed.
There are very few places on earth where a muslim woman has any freedom and you should know this. Even in Indroneasia whichis trouthed as th elargest muslim democracy in the world women have few actual freedons. They are forced by what is refered as culture and custom but in reality is nothign short of bondage.
In most muslim countries women can not move about freely, own cars, vote, go out wiht out males accompaning them. make decisions on the family or themselves, even to the clothes they wear. or risk being killed even by their family for acting too german, too american , too french, too anything but muslim.

Anyone who thinks the muslim woman has any freedom is just got their head in the sand.

Because the mentality in the middle east is that women cannot make decisions as well as men because they are "hormonal" and "not as level-headed" as men. Some of the women there actually agree with this mentality because they have been so brainwashed by their own culture.

You may be looking down on strippers and models but you need to remember that those women are choosing what they want to do.

The women in the middle east can't even by groceries without their husband's permission.

just because women are used as sexual objects, degraded in beer ads, etc, does not mean that muslim women aren't also oppressed. men have absolute rights in muslim countries--look at what the taliban has done to women. look at what husbands, according to islam are allowed to do. look at what even muhammed has done with his marrying his step son's wife, marrying a 9 year old girl. look at how women are beaten just for showing their skin. don't tell me they're not oppressed. here they're just taken advantage of in a different way.

Because society as a rule is uneducated regarding the Muslim faith. I'm not Muslim nor an expert. Some of them are oppressed, but I'd say, they are in fact being protected.

I find what goes on in our society sick and shameful.

Because they are! It's a sad truth but a Muslim woman who does not do as her husband or male members of her family do what they tell her to do she can be beaten and abused and killed with NO ONE!!! NO ONE caring what happens to her! their are NO LAWS to help her like there are in America! Although they are not all oppressed many are.
Bye.

Don't judge from yourself, your family might be an open minded one, go on a trip to Egypt, Yemen, Iran, Syria to mention a few.
Please read verse (sura) 4:34 of the Koran and see what Allah says about women.
