the recovery disc is a good bit of kit,its basically a windows xp disc designed for your particular p.c
by installing this you will return the p.c to its "factory defualts"or the way it was when your bro took it out of the box
it will take around 40 minutes to re-install windows and when complete you need to install security software and microsoft updates, and also the drivers for a)chipset b) graphic card c)broadband router and others
so insert the recovery disk and follow the on-screen instructions, once finished here are some free anti-viruses and anti-spyware for you to download, why not download them now and burn them to disc, and have this ready for when the recovery disc has completed so you have software ready to install
anti-virus.....avast 4.7(http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html)
anti-spyware....spybot(http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html)...adaware personal..(http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5) and windows defender..(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=435bfce7-da2b-4a6a-afa4-f7f14e605a0d&DisplayLang=en)
display drivers...nvidia(http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp)...a.t.i (http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html)
sound drivers...(http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/)
microsoft windows updates..(http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us)
and for any patches or updates for your particular computer here is a link to the packard bell website..............http://www.packardbell.com/products.htm

The recovery disc will wipe everything and reinstall windows as it was when the pc was purchased.
It will do exactly what you need it to do. Just put the disk in the drive and boot the pc (you may need to make the pc boot from cd instead of the hard drive).
Then just follow the instructions.
Remember to make sure you put security on it before connecting to the PC such as firewall and antivirus as the windows it insalls will not be updated to fix security issues. Also make updating windows the first thing you do

dont use your recovery disk just yet... try to run system restore first if your having a problem with the comp. if not then get the phonebook and find a computer store to wipe the drive. they will install windows "xp" is the best right now and they will give you media package, virus software...the whole works the comp will be in brand new state. www.myspace.com/jimmycody

No. HOWEVER it will get rid of word and other programs that included in Micrsoft office.
If you are wonting to wipe it completly you have to go into a comand prompt and format. But i think your best bet is going into control panel, add / remove programmes nad then just delete the programmes you dont want. Obviously after this you will have to delete files as well but be careful if you do that because you dont want to delete system files.
Hope this helps!

No, i beleive the only way to lose windows is to do a format of the harddrive. The recovery disc should return it to the settings it was at from the factory.

of course if you format the thing you'll lose everything
why not just delete bits off the hard drive?
what i would do in your poision is just create my own account, (as administrator) then pick anything you might like from the stuff he has and after that delete his account.
yes
all of it (if you don't really need anything else)
it's quit easy to do from user accounts in control panel which you'll find if you look to your left and up after clicking the start button.
that way you've got lots of free space and you don't have to install all the applications again and you'll have an account that you can modify to your unique specifications...
the method you're suggesting is borin and tedious! ¦-D
try mine. (i hope i understood your question and you find this of some help)

If it is a recovery disk, it should bring it back to how it was 18 months ago. I recovered my computer several times using software and it didn't remove my OS.

The recovery disc will return it to the state it was in when it was first purchased; you will still have Windows XP.
