Oh, what a fantastic question! My favorite is when someone makes gobs of mistakes then mentions he/she is a teacher. So, not only have so many people either never learned or never applied correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation, but teachers admit to the same errors. I just can't send something without proofreading it first. It's interesting how much tolerance we seem to have for writing errors, when it really takes the same amount of time to communicate clearly. :)

People make so many grammatical errors because they: 1). Have not retained what they WERE taught in school. 2). They feel grammar is unimportant. 3). Much emphasis is put on the informality of internet usage . 4). They do not really care that others csn or cannot understand exactly what is meant. After all, the writer is not actually seen.

Many have English as a second language as we are from all over the world. Many are only 7th or 8th grade and are still learning. Many are excellent spellers but poor typists. Why bother raggin on that ask and answer questions and have fun. Is there any other reason we are here. We must support each other.

People are not educated appropriately. My dad is an English/grammar teacher, but I still make mistakes because I don't feel like taking the time to type correctly.

Because they either have had lousy teachers, or they were lousy learners, and couldn't be bothered to learn how to treat one of the most precious gifts we, as humans, have... the gift of the most sophisticated means of communication one to another. It is NOT ok to just say anything that somebody can probably figure out. It is pretty darn disgusting when we abuse this remarkable gift that we have, and it is something up with which, we should not put.

SOME of it is understandable, just Internet shorthand, but there is alot of spelling on here that there is no reasonable explanation for. It just seems like some people are just plain dumb!

That's because they are lazybutts and don't watch their grammar, or they're too lazy to press the Check Spelling button, or... the list could go on.

Spellcheck is for sissies and they are very well assured of their spelling prowess (sadly, there is no way to do a grammar check)
