Have to agree with one of the others - there is nothing like a great prescription cream from a dermatologist. I wish I had gone to a derm when I was a teenager so I wasn't so miserable my whole life. I was on this all-natural kick for so long- then broke down and went and it's the best decision I ever made. Currently I use Differin lotion. But I also have rosacea so I use Finacea gel. People always tell me my skin looks like a porcelain doll. No kidding. The stuff I'm using now ROCKS!

it all depends on the person & their skin. I've had acne for 7 years, though nowadays my skin is very healthy & I rarely break out anymore. I tried proactive my first couple years of having acne & it dried my skin out. Then my parents got me a dermatologist. I was on some type of pill for a while but it dried out my skin & gave me a pink tone< plus my parents didn't want me taking medication for it.
My dermatologist put me on several different medications (different acne creams & washes) until we found what works for me. I am now using a mild cream called Topical Gel & a face wash called Oscion cleanser. I wash my face every morning & night. I use my face wash everynight, then apply topical gel, & then I use "oil free" nuetrogena moisturizer. In the morning I wash my face with cetaphil, apply topical gel, & then another neutrogena moisturizer with spf15.
Every teenager with acne should be using some type of moisturizer since your skin is creating excess oil in attempt to moisturize itself, causing acne. Acne creams & washe help but one should always use moisturizer! always!!!

I struggled with acne for about four years in my teens. Well, I'm 19 now and have clear, beautiful skin. I tried prettttty much everything and FINALLY was prescribed to Accutane.

Only do that if nothing else works, though.

There are four steps, cleanse, exfoliate, tone, and moisturize. if your skin is already a bit oily then do not moisturize as often. You MUST cleanse everyday though. Try cleansing twice a day and if your skin gets dry then just do it once a day. What works really well is OXY for cleanser, exfoliate with St. Ives Apricot scrub, for toner use Witch Hazel, and for moisturizer use Aveeno. If Aveeno may contain too much moisture, then try Curel.

Proactiv works. I've had acne for 10 years and finally tried it and it amazes me. I've been to dermatologists but what they gave me never touched it like proactiv.

My daughter had this problem and we ended up at the doctors office since nothing was working. He prescribed a low dose antibiotic and a cream for her. They seem to be working great. Although not perfect, her face and back have really cleared up.
