Most people are allergic to hamster bedding and not the animal itself, although it is possible. Pine and Cedar, both soft woods, contain phenols, which are toxic oils that can cause serious health problems for the animals and allergic reactions for us as well. Cedar should NEVER be used. It's still sold, but has been proven very toxic years ago. Pine on the other hand, is fairly safe after it's been through the process of kiln drying which removes most of the phenols. Kiln dried pine is very commonly used and accepted as OK for Chinchillas and Hamsters. I personally wouldn't use it though. Pine causes allergies for many people, but some don't realize it. Can range from mild headaches and some sneezing to migraines and badly runny nose. Aspen is from a hardwood tree and is MUCH more safe for pets. And, does NOT affect most people at all. Lastly, you can try Carefresh bedding as well. Hamsters don't eat hay, so generally that doesn't cause a problem with them/their owners. Good luck. IF you really are allergic to the hamster itself, get on www.petfinder.org and find shelters/rescues in your area that will take a hamster in.

I would try changing the litter before I worry about find her a new home.
Try Carefresh Pet Bedding. Its made from reclaimed wood pulp. My son was allergic to the pine bedding so we switched and things were fine after that.
Also you could try putting her in another room then the one you sleep in. You can still play with her, just wash your hands throughly after your done, and don't touch your eyes...mucus membranes react quickly.
The other thing you might want to limit if you give it is alfalfa. People can be allergic to that also.

are you sure you are allergic to the hamster and not the litter? When I had a guinea pig it turns out I was allergic to the litter and hay. (the small amount of dust)
Can you move it to another room?
If no then...benadryl or allegra worked for me. It all really depends on you.

well you can tell your doctor and he/she can give you something that will help. You might not be allergic to the hamster it might be the hay and other things inside her cage that you are allergic to.

Are you sure you're allergic to her, or is it something like her hay or food or bedding. Try to check it out, hope that helped.
