I really like him as a friend and i dont want to lose him just because I dont feel the same way as him. I also dint want things to be weird between us. I just dont know what to tell him?

Tell him you are in no way ready for the kind of relationship you have to change. !!! Tell him he is the one person you can rely on and you can't handle the hurt you would feel if something happened to cause hurt feelings that often come with being unsure.
Or if he dumped you for anyone else who came along.
I had a best friend, a guy in high school tell me ,
"I am not ready for a girl like you" and he wasn't! because I was the steady boyfriend -take no prisoners type, then we went to collage and started dating ....
3 years later we were married and 3 more years later we had 2 babies..... he needs to wait.not forever...but date other girls and see how you both feel in a few years.

Having just been there and done that...I can tell you to be honest!!!! Tell him exactly how you feel and that if HE still wants to be friends you would like that. Give him the control with that. But do be honest and do it SOON!! Good Luck!
