I don't buy on the internet. Could never know the authenticity.

www.montblanc.com I would question the authenticity of anything on ebay. There are cheap replicas of everything. Of course if you want a replica Mont Blanc they can be bought for about $45.

How is the internet worse for authenticity than an estate sale, thrift shop or charity auction???

There are stores that specialize in fine pens. I know of one in Seattle Washington and one in Carmel or Pacific Grove California. Do an internet search for them, sorry it's been a while and I forget the names.

I used to work for a guy who collected pens. He had several at the office worth thousands and more at home worth tens of thousands. Always seemed like a huge waste of money to me. I mean, how many pens can you write with at a time?? If I'm going to have gemstones, I wanna wear'em.

I did find a lovely vintage fountain pen at a yard sale once. Didn't know what it was when I bought it, it just looked like this very long oblong. One day I was cleaning a drawer, found the thing, unscrewed the top (duh) and realized what it was. I gave it to my boss for his collection. Probably the cheapest one he ever owned...

An estate sale is a good idea ,but do you know how to tell real from fake.Maybe you should try the charity auction(they would sell the real thing or there could be trouble. Also and some people frown on it-pawn shops.I don't know where you are but in Toronto there are several that have top quality goods-everything from a Rolex to a cabin cruiser. These are stores a long time in the business and they examine everything before they buy.You would still have to pay a good price but it would not be fake, and it would be in working order. It seems you should not get this purchase-sight unseen.

Try at one of the fine jewelers in your area.

If you want a truly unique pen, you should be able to commission one from an independent jeweler (i.e. not a chain store).

Staples has beautiful ones. They keep them in a glass case and they are expensive.

Try ebay. I wonder how many questions I could answer with just those two little words...
