Ashlee Simpson got famous because she went into acting and scored a solid role on the show 7th Heaven, being Jessica Simpson's sister had nothing to do with that. When I first saw her on 7th Heaven I had no clue she was related to Jessica. She then used her TV acting career as a springboard into starting her own music career.
Her music career was actually okay (not super popstar quality like Britney, Christina, or Pink, but it started out decent) and she had a reality TV show going at the same time covering her early jump into music. With the SNL incident her music career took a big hit and has never fully recovered, but anyone that watched her reality TV show knew that her voice problems were real and that's why she had to lipsync on SNL. Ashlee didn't have the extensive vocal training or vocal range that Jessica had, her throat and voice problems were caused by straining her vocal chords to sing notes that were out of her normal range and the repeat performances strained them even more. If she spent a few years training like Jessica did, then Ashlee would not have had such problems.
She did get a nose job a while back, and her face looks much better. Its hard to tell, but she may have gotten her boobs done, too. A few of her recent pics make her look a lot bigger, almost similar to Jessica's cleavage, which she didn't seem to have before. It's possible that with the lag in her music career she's planning to get back into acting, but might be overshadowed now that Jessica also went into acting.
The two Simpson sisters kinda have opposite career paths...

Ashlee Simpson had an older sister that sings and had a couple of really annoying songs on the radio that little 10 years know the words too. Little girls look up to her. Yeah and men with really bad taste in woman think she is hot. I just enjoy laughing at her though!

as everybody else, i'm going to have to say that her sister, Jessica Simpson, really was the key to her whole career. If it wasn't for her famous family, she probably wouldn't be a pop star she is today.

well it cant be the same way jessica did..but i think her Jessica got famous 1st cuz i was watching THS one day on like nick lachey or 98 degrees or something, and he was talking bout how he like, was encouraging Jessica to sing..so yeaah pretty rad.....

I say that about a lot of the pop stars on the market these days. She was lucky, rode on her sister's coat tails and has a savvy father who promoted her career.
