Relax in a warm bath.
Put a hot water bottle in the small of your back, or on your abdomen.
Recline with your feet up and listen to soothing music.
Take a gentle walk.
Anything that tends to relax your muscles will relieve cramps to some degree.

the best way to relieve cramping is to take a hot shower or bath. You could also try using a heating pad

A heating pad or a hot bath helps. There is also an herbal PMS tea (they sell it in the health food section in most grocery stores). I honestly haven't had much luck with the tea though. I've heard that exercise helps, but how you're supposed to exercise when you're curled up in a ball because you're in so much pain is beyond me. If you don't want to take anything, a heating pad or hot water bottle is your best bet.

This will sound weird, but I found that if I exercise on day ten of my cycle, I don't have any PMS symptoms! You will have to log this a few months to see what works for you. Try about half an hour a day of walking: start with odd number days of your cycle, then switch the next month to even number days. Within two periods, you should know if this will work for you. Then you can narrow it down to see which days are most effective for exercise.

A heating pad works well. Drink some hot tea. Another thing they say that helps is exercise which I know seems like the last thing you want to do when you've got cramps but it works.

You can try heating pads and some people say exercises...at least that's what the gym teacher always said...personally I use breathing exercises to control period cramps, I've been doing it since I was young and it really works, but it takes practice and concentration.

warm moist heat on the lower back.
make sure you have good bowel movements. A lot of low back and low abdominal pain comes from constipation (not having at least 1-2 bowel movements per day).
Do Yoga.
Take calcium-magnesium supplement during period. It helps prevent cramps in all muscles.

YES, a warm compress will help. I use what I call a "corn bag" which is a small bag that I made, filled with deer feed. You can warm it up in the microwave and the warmth lasts for HOURS. Also, it's reusuable. I've had the one that I have now for over a year.
