Amish people have not changed. And I doubt they ever will. Their philosophy has always been about simplicity, and being closer to God through simplicity. :)
You can still go visit Amish Cities, it's pretty cool!!! A very neat experience.

The Amish and Mennonites that live near me have changed over the years... They (the Amish) are now allowed to use electricity to run their mill businesses as long as they do not own the building that the electricity is in.
The patronize fast food joints, and accept rides from people in motor vehicles to go to auctions, shopping or appointments. Some are allowed to use gas engines for running some mill machines.
The Mennonites here are far more liberal than the Amish. They have electricity, tractors, & personal vehicles. The one family near us actually does snow plowing for the Amish with a skidsteer.
We have one friend who use to be a Hutterite (spelling) and they are even more advanced than the Menonites. They run their communes / farms with computer technology. Our friend who USE to be part of the ommune can only return to visit since he married outside the commune.
All three speak the old low german, borderline gothic german. Our german exchange student could converse with them but she said they truly had a different dialect than what she is use to in Germany today.
Offer an Amish a ride ONCE and they will bug you forever to drive them all over. They can use a phone, but only by walking to the neighbors to use theirs.
All three are good people... You never hear of "their kind" causing any trouble. Something our society could takew a lesson from in todays world.

I lived near amish country....they are very nice people who keep to themselves....they wear plain clothes....they have plain houses...for example they just have either white curtains or blue curtains in their home....with no designs....make their own soaps and things like that.....still ride on horses and buggies....even though now they have windsheild wipers for their buggies...lol...no electricity in homes....do not own cars..but they will accept rides in them? I never understood that one either.

the reason they won't own cars, but will accept rides is because they think the devil is in the steering wheel. they will let us poor sinners drive it, but not them. lol
