From my own personal experience, it is an impossible feat. The only shortcut around this problem would be a line out from your effects processor (of course, you have to have one first), directly to a male 1/4" to a male 1/8" into your computers microphone slot. Of course, this is no guarantee. Some processors, like the boss line, has a direct digital out that you can use.

My experience recording direct (line in to your computer or any recording device) is that the sound is really annoying. I always record using a microphone. Try this: take your microphone and put it slightly off-axis in front of your guitar amp. Experiment with it to get the right sound.

This is basically the way they record electric guitars in pro studios MOST of the time.

You could try recording Direct using an effects unit such as the "Guitarport" from the company Line 6. It has loads of effects and very easy to use.

Plug straight into your soundcard and your good to go.

No, you will need a mixing board to do this. I don't know of any adapter that will let you plug straight into a computer. Even if you could find one it would probably be very poor quality.
