Yes. Her father was in the backup band for Lionel---he and his first wife just fell in love with little Nicole and when the dad and the mom were having "troubles" (not sure if that's drugs or money), they offered to adopt Nicole.
And the rest is history. Lucky little girl she was, eh?

Yep,she is.I saw a documentary on her and her father,Lionel Richie,the one who adopted her.It was said that she was the daughter of one of Lionel's band member(not exactly band member but it was more of a guitar player or drummer).
