Greed, which tears apart families. And breaks them down even before they can build themselves. That actually lowers the birth rate.
Obesity really only comes through the plenty associated with it, but that is all false, that illusion of plenty.
Because our food souce is really just biologically engeneered, and when that fails we will be left with nothing at all.
I'd say also, stress. Because we cause' ourselves to become run down just running and grabbing all that stuff, we call that shopping! Almost punching each other out to get the stuff.
When we do that, we are just slaves of the corporations. Cause many of us feel we have to do it, even though it is totally unpaid work.
Many are starting to feel, instead of paying them at all, they should be paying us hourly for doing it!
Afterall, we already worked 60 or 80 hours just to make the stuff, when we haven't exploited from some 3rd World country.

Everyone alive consumes, so it's more accurate to say taht population causes global warming, than to blame some abstract concept such as "consumerism". We could all adopt a different viewpoint than "consumerism", but we'd still live in a house, ship food to eat, drive a car, and so on. And the population of the earth will still be projected to reach 9 to 12 billion by 2050. If we think that conservation by the 20% of the population that lives in developed nations will stop the basic math behind growing greenhouse gas emissions, we truly are screwed.
