Some idiot told me this theory, I think that mass media contributed to women's insecurities about their appearance, but I think that, to be bisexual, you have to have these tendencies, not learn them through mass media...what do you think?

I am a heterosexual woman, so I don't know much about bisexual women

I honestly think the answer is yes and no. You have to look at the bisexual herself. Also, are we talking just sexual attraction or emotional attachments too? Let's talk about what I'm going to call a true bisexual first. A woman who is sexually attracted and can fall 100% in love with either sex. This woman would not be influenced by the media because in this scenario her bisexuality is most likely something that occurred biologically since going one way or the other doesn't depend on a need to impress. It is my observation that the media portrays bisexuality as a good thing in terms of being desired even more by men.
So a true bisexual wouldn't feel a need to impress men with her bisexuality since her emotional attachment can go both ways. She doesn't have to focus on impressing just one side though it is a bonus that does make her more sexy and that is due to constantly being bombarded with how sexy bisexual women are by the mass media. So while it may not directly influence her choice of a male of female lover it can be used as almost a sexual accessory and being able to do that is a product of mass media.

Once you start looking at women who don't fall in love with other women but just like to have sex with them you can say yes maybe the media does directly influence her choice in having sex with a woman because she would be able to utilize her bisexuality as a means of attracting her next boy friend. It is very much portrayed as a mechanism to attract men. So if her primary emotional attachments are to men her underlying motive may be to use it as a ploy even if she really enjoyed her female lover. This seems even more true in 'momentary bisexuals'. You know, the girls that hook up with other girls in bars to impress guys or girls who will have a threesome for her man (infrequently of coarse). Then her bisexuality becomes a sexual accessory just as necessary to attract/keep men sexually stimulated as a good pair of jeans that make her *** look great. The ability to use her bisexuality in a such a way is only because of the mass media that makes girls being with girls the 'hot new thing'.

In a documentary about 'Power Lesbians' girlfriends were described as the new Chihuahuas. So the influence of the mass media ultimately depends on the mindset of the bisexual herself.

Have you seen the "Girls Gone Wild" commercials? I really don't know what the underlying answer is, however I do believe that media holds a portions that may contribute to some wome be bisexual. It's more socially acceptable to see to women kiss, rather than men. People think of it as being sexy, beautiful, erotic, and very appleaing to the eye. However you will not find that too often on the screen. In my opnion Borkeback Mountain is the first to really put it out there. The point is sex sales and women are the best and more socially acceptable to be in the media.

Human contribution to the current global warming is having an impact on the warming. There simply is no way around this fact, though many have tried to deny it. Are humans the sole reason for the current warming trend? No, but the contributions by humans is the reason why there is so much CO2 in our atmosphere now. A cursory look at all of the human activities shows us this. The burning of fossil fuels. deforestation and our use of the land are all examples of how humans contribute to the ever increasing problem. Recent human activity alone would cause a rise in the CO2 levels that traps the heat from returning back into space.

I'm bisexual and I didn't become the way I am from watching Guys Gone Wild so why would it be seperate?

I know some people do not believe in bisexuality, but would you rather have us live a lie or be honest about ourselves and who we're attracted to and what we want?

I think if a woman is bi, she is bi regardless of the media. However, the media might make it easier for her to come out and admit to being bi or take a female partner where in the past a woman might have just hid that part of her sexuality.

I think you are right that you have to have those tendencies to be bi

but I think the media would make people a little more comfortable being open about it. when they might not have been in the past

Bisexuality is seen as a fashion statement for a lot of women these days.

I don't see how the media could contribute to any form of sexuality. Sexual preferences are a given attribute from birth on.

Pfft, you're either born that way or you're not. Things like those Girls Gone Wild videos might put a thought or two into some preteen girls head, but it doesn't make them gay, bi or straight.
(What the hell would a preteen girl be doing with that garbage in the first place, I do not know.)

I disagree with your theory...I think it's the fact that men are becoming more and more abusive toward women and we've just had enough. Let's give our love to someone who'll truly appreciate us, even if it means another woman.
