This is hard to diagnose with so little information.
Broadband can mean anything from at least 256 Kbps to 6MB (or more) in speed.
I live in a rural area with very little broadband options my Upload / Download (Kbps) speed is 745 / 535 (Kbps)
You can find your speed settings at a number of places
http://www.dslreports.com/stest
(Google "how fast is my internet conntection" for more listings
Once you have established how fast you can upload and download the next item is your computer.
The faster your computer is the faster EVERYTHING will work including the internet.
The biggest increase of speed (and least expensive) comes from how much memory you have on your computer. In today's world, 512MB memory is decent amount. I have 1GIG of memory and a processor that was really fast about 3 years ago and I can do most things.
Processor's bigger than Pentium III's are also a must.
Next keep your browser's history and temp internet files cleaned up.
I use three browsers:
Opera:
http://www.opera.com
Firefox
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
and finally Microsoft's IE
Each one has its own way of clearing history and temp files.
Opera is my favorite by far (but not the favorite of most people) What this means is that some sites will not work correctly when using opera. About 8% to 10% overall. Opera aheres to the standards set by the W3C consortium the place for all of the actual specifictions of web design. Microsoft and others are notorius for not playing by the rules. They make up their own which causes what I call Browser wars. Each one having a little bit different way it displays pages. This means web designers must write different code (instead of the W3C standard) for each type of browser. This is a daunting and costly endeavor . So most web site creaters just write to make it work in either IE or Firefox.
Keeping your history clean and temp internet files directory/folder clean means less work for the operating system. If you are a heavy user 10 days of history can easily have thousands and thousands of files in those directorys/folders. It takes longer to look up and save entries in directorys/folders with lots and lots of files.
A disk defrag, if you are using a Microsoft operating system is also something to look at.
Check for adware and other nastys.
Hope this helps.

before everything, those cookies and internet data are purely tips your computing device can use to load pointers on web content faster, so deleting them purely makes your computing device start up each thing from scratch, I propose clearing them each 2 or 3 months, somewhat than on a regular basis. issues like the type and layers of the internet web site, even on youtube and facebook, do not substitute very regularly, so those data and cookies will purely make it easier to to. and you probably did not fairly let us know what variety of video card are you working or what processor because of the fact all of those issues have a say in how rapidly applications and information superhighway pages artwork. and in line with risk using a various browser might help. suited now Google's Chrome browser is between the quickest and espresso weight on your CPU. Firefox is likewise yet another enjoyed answer in browsers. factor is, there are a minimum of a dozen issues that would and could effect velocity, attempt those products first, furnish us with some extra data of your device, and in line with risk something might desire to be carried out.

Sounds like you got infected so you need a cure. I would recommend the following if you can get it. Adware SE... Spybot.. both free. then I use ms anti malware and defender both good. I run all several times a week. Why all ? Well no one program gets everything no matter what they say. After you clean up and still running little slow try this internet options and clear the temp file. then do control..alt.. delete go to applications and stop all non sys programs. Note leave task.iexplore open but close all owner programs you don't need running. this frees up ram. you migh go to sys tools in the memu and run the cleaner and defag if you haven't done so. the cleaner cleans out all unnessary files and defag will move like files yto one location so the comp cam find them easier. This is just basic maintance one needs to do ever so often but the spybot and trogon removers should be done once aweek.

A clean computer is key to a faster computer. Run the 3 scans below.
Update and run your Anti-Virus program. Don't have one? You can run a free online scan from Trendmicro. When I have tested it it takes some time to run it but it may be time well spent if it can fix any problems.
Download and run http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Download, update and run Spybot---http://www.safer-networking.org/ . Don't forget to use the Immunize feature.
Download, update and run Adaware---http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/products/select_your_product.php
Now lets clean up your registry.
Download RegScrubXP--http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?d...
Safely cleans junk out of the Windows 2000/XP system registry. All changes made to the registry are fully restorable to it's original condition. You can make an exclusion list of registry entries that RegScrubXP will not display as problems. You can sift through a list of file extensions, company names, run upon startup programs, Internet Explorer history, and uninstall programs to delete what you think is junk.
Download CleanUp---http://www.stevengould.org/software/clea...
Free disk space, make your computer run better/faster and protect your privacy - all in one easy solution. All for free!
Now lets clean up your disk.
Do a Disk Cleanup and Disk Defrag. You can find both of them by following the path below.
Start>all programs>accessories>system tools>Disk Cleanup. Let it do its thing. You can check every box that has something to delete.
Now follow the same path and do a Disk Defrag. Again just let it do its thing.
Now lets tweak your connection. There are many programs out there to do this. I will give you 2 of them.
The first one is TCP Optimizer.
Description: The TCP Optimizer is a free, easy Windows program that provides an intuitive interface for tuning and optimizing your Internet connection. There is no installation required, just download and run.
http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php...
You can get support for the best way to set it up right from their forum http://forums.speedguide.net/
The second one is Cablenut.
Windows XP tested and approved
CableNut is a tool for optimizing your Internet Connection. We have provided a way to tweak any option you may want to in the adjuster. You can load "CableNut Custom Setting" files that are included with the program to tweak your Internet connection.
http://www.cablenut.com/
Again support is available right from their forum.http://www.broadbandnuts.com/index.php?p...

Delete your temporary files and cookies. Its probably a glitch on their end because of alot more people getting their broadband. It should eventually speed back up. You may want to runan antivirus in case you have a worm or something.

Faster connection, more RAM, faster processor, and closing down any non-essential applications and prompts should increase the speed of your system, also, delete the data from your temporary internet folder.

Keep your operating sytem clean by tune up softwares.
Or Re-Install your OS if you consider feasible. and on new installation, install those software which you use. now a days, every software connect to internet without our permission, makes internet speed slow.
Remove temporary files, junk data regularly.
